Connect with Playit.gg
Create a tunnel so friends can join without port forwarding.
What the tunnel does#
Playit is a proxy service: an agent on your server network makes an outgoing connection to Playit, and friends connect to the public hostname Playit gives you. The players do not install the agent. The current official Playit setup page ↗ lists Minecraft Java on its free tier and states that only the host runs the agent; paid features can change, so check current pricing before relying on extras.
- 1Create a Playit account at playit.gg ↗.
- 2Install the agent using the ZimaOS app if available, or Playit’s current Docker/Linux instructions.
- 3Open the claim link/code shown by the agent and attach it to your account.
- 4Create a Minecraft Java tunnel.
- 5Select the claimed agent.
- 6Set the local address to the ZimaOS machine’s reserved LAN IP and the local port to
25565. - 7Save and confirm the agent and tunnel both show online.
- 8Copy the generated public hostname.
- 9Ask a trusted friend outside your home, or use a separate connection, to test.
Fix a tunnel that will not join#
Agent offline
Start the agent container, check its log and confirm the server has internet and correct time. Reclaim only if the account says this agent is not attached.
Tunnel active, joining fails
Prove LAN joining still works. Compare the tunnel’s local IP and port with Crafty. Confirm the server is running and that Minecraft Java uses the tunnel type/protocol Playit specifies.
High latency
Traffic takes an extra trip through a Playit datacenter. Use Ethernet, check the agent’s route, avoid saturating home upload, and test at different times. Regional routing may be a paid feature.
